Overton's Battle of the Brands
Hello iWake! This week I’ll once again be breaking this story into two parts. Overton’s Battle of the Brands brings together a handful of wakeboard, wakesurf, and boat manufactures all in one place at one time giving the people a chance to try before they buy, or even just to try. Pro riders and factory reps were on hand from Liquid Force, Hyperlite, Ronix, Slingshot, Byerly Boards, Cove, and Inland Surfers.
My trip started in Orlando. The Ronix rep, Brett Hargrave and team rider Adam Errington, picked me up from my house to start our journey north towards the Carolinas. Friday morning we arrived at Hexagon Wakepark for day one of the Battle of the Brands. The sky was a bit overcast, but conditions at the cable were quite nice. As we pulled in and hopped out of the truck a big black van driven by wakeskate legend Aaron Reed pulled up. Out poured some of the top names in the industry. Shawn Watson, Danny Hampson, Daniel Grant, and Stephen Pierce were all on hand to hang out and ride with fans who were amped to try all kinds of new boards and boot setups. Cole Vanthof was in the house with the crew from Hyperlite. Slingshot’s Oli Derome was also at Hexagon promoting some of the industry’s top hybrid wakeboards too.
I was stoked as my role wasn’t to announce a contest, but to just hop on the Gold Mic, welcome all the people and direct traffic throughout the day by letting people know what was going on. I was also lucky enough to have the opportunity to take a few laps around the cable myself. I took some shoe ski laps and strapped into a board setup for a little doubles action with past national Jr. Boys champion and Hexagon regular, Fynn Bullock.
Throughout the day people on hand got to watch all the pros ride and even test their set ups. Hexagon is such a rad park. Jon Beamis and his crew are very hands on at making sure beginners and pros all experience good times at all times. The cable rides so smooth and the Unit features are seamless and cater to all levels.
Overton’s Battle of the Brands is a two-day event, with the first day at the cable and the second at Falls Lake. Check out part two of this story with even more photos and more top names from the world of wake.
Thanks for reading all, and enjoy this first set of photos!
